Job Description

Department: Research & Development (R&D)

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, passionate Junior Cosmetic Chemist to join our R&D team. You will support the development of innovative personal care products—from initial concept to final production. This role is perfect for a recent graduate with a strong chemistry background who is eager to learn the art and science of formulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulation Support: Prepare lab-scale batches of skincare, haircare, or color cosmetic products following specific formulations provided by Senior Chemists.
  • Stability Testing: Monitor and document the physical and chemical stability of samples (checking for changes in pH, viscosity, color, and odor) over set periods.
  • Raw Material Management: Maintain an organized inventory of chemical ingredients and interface with suppliers to request technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data (SDS).
  • Lab Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory equipment (homogenizers, pH meters, viscometers) is calibrated and sterilized according to GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
  • Documentation: Maintain a precise lab notebook, recording every observation and adjustment made during the mixing process.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with standard lab techniques (titration, pipetting, weighing) and a basic understanding of emulsions and surfactants.
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, a “scientific curiosity” for beauty trends, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and formulation calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship experience in a cosmetic or pharmaceutical lab.
  • Knowledge of “Clean Beauty” standards and natural ingredient sourcing.
